Mr Loco and I spent years popping in and out of each others life. We emailed, texted, sent Facebook messages, talked on the phone, shared articles, memes and anything we thought the other would find interesting. That never stopped. We were constantly sending each other links, YouTube videos, texting photos of what we were up to or chatting. When Mr Loco and I first “became a thing” we were on opposite sides of the country. He started sending me songs. These are the little things that mean so much to me now. I have this playlist of songs that we sent to each other. He told me how he felt about me every single day but this playlist will play on and remind me how loved I am even though he is no longer here to tell me himself. If you have time, take a listen to a few of these.
The Luckiest by Ben Folds was the song we walked together down the aisle to get married. We would often say to one another “I’m the luckiest.” and the other would chime right back “No, I’m the luckiest.” We would battle for a while trying to convince the other that we were indeed the luckiest out of the two of us. Mr Loco always told me I would never win and he would forever be the luckiest. I should just accept that his love for me was greater and he was lucky to have me. My plan was to get “The Luckiest” tattooed on my wrist so I could use that to help me “win” this battle. We played lots of Ben Folds during those long hospital stays. (A LOT OF BEN FOLDS!) I played The Luckiest for Mr Loco during his last hospital stay. (I played Ben Folds and then this entire playlist, but this song was the last song I played.)
Landed by Ben Folds- Maybe someday I will tell you the story of when Mr Loco and I met up for the first time after telling each other how we felt. This song has 249 plays. The text Mr Loco sent me when he arrived in Chicago was a simple “Come pick me up. I’ve landed”.
Take A Chance On Me by ABBA was the song I played over and over (and over and over like a high school girl with a crush) as the spark that was always there was now so bright it could not be ignored.
Slide by The Goo Goo Dolls- I remember texting back after Mr Loco sent me this one “This says Do you wanna get married or run away” He replied “Yes, it does”

This playlist is full of the songs that have the most plays in my collection. Some songs make me think of how much in love we were (stupid, crazy in love), some remind me of us singing together in the car on road trips, others really tell a bit of our story or have one or two lines that mean a lot. I doubt many people actually play the songs or search for the others on YouTube and take a listen. That is ok. This one is for me. It is a reminder of the role music plays in our life and how certain songs remind you of certain times or people. It is a reminder that music can bring back a flood of memories. It can make you laugh and cry. Music is the yearbook of our life and these songs comprise OUR love story. The cheesy ones happen to be from me and the good ones are from Mr Loco.
